Prof. Siti Noorbaiyah Abdul Malek is the Principal Consultant, Halal, with PublicPolicyAsia Advisors (PPAA) and is based in the United States. She is a renowned and leading halal expert in ASEAN. She advises PPAA’s HalalAsia Network. She was previously a highly accomplished executive and Associate Professor of Food Technology at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), with over 20 years of experience spanning both public and private sectors.
Prof. Siti’s academic journey is a testament to her dedication and expertise. She holds a Ph.D. in Food Science from Rutgers University, a Master of Science in Food Science from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Food Science from the University of Minnesota, USA. Her education in food technology began at Institut Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, where she obtained a Diploma in Food Technology.
Since 2017, Prof. Siti has been a driving force at SIT, where she not only teaches various modules related to food technology and supervises student research, but also plays a pivotal role in curriculum development. Her influence extends to securing research grants and leading innovative projects like Singapore’s first shared food production facility. She represents the university in numerous academic and professional forums, further solidifying her impact on the field.
Her previous leadership roles include Head of Science & Regulatory Affairs at Food Industry Asia (FIA) and Executive Director of the ASEAN Food and Beverage Alliance (AFBA). Additionally, she served in pivotal positions within the UKM Holdings Group of Companies, contributing significantly to food safety system development and professional training in Malaysia.
Prof. Siti’s work is recognized through numerous awards, including a Gold Medal for her invention of Tempeh Chips. She actively participates in national and international committees, contributing to food safety standards, regulatory affairs, and halal certification. She also advises the US Dairy Export Council on food regulations and halal standards in ASEAN, showcasing her deep expertise in the halal industry.
She has taught at esteemed institutions such as Taylor’s University and Universiti Teknologi MARA, where she played a significant role in leading and developing food technology programs. Prof. Siti’s dedication to fostering talent and her visionary approach to food technology is evident through her mentorship and extensive collaboration between academia and industry.
